Yo Stephen Garcia: Strike SIX (6)…You’re OUT!
SHOCKED?!? Not this guy. It’s official: Stephen Garcia is no longer a member of the Carolina football team, four years and 10 months since he kicked off a collegiate experience that will be remembered as much for his misbehavior off the field as his underachievement on it.
Garcia enrolled at Carolina early, “grayshirting,” with the purpose being for him to have a semester’s jump on “adjusting” to the college game and to “life at USC.” (emphasis supplied) To coin a favorite line from Southpark: MMMKaaaay?!? Less than two months after the start of the Spring 2007 semester, he was involved in an international incident. That’s right, I said INTERNATIONAL.
Perhaps you are like me and suffer from a bit of “Garcia Fatigue”. If that’s the case, SNAP OUT OF IT SISTER!!! Let’s engage on a little trip back in time.
Anton Ferdinand (brother of the more-famous Rio), then a defender for the English soccer club West Ham United, lied to his club about his whereabouts to come across the ocean for a private birthday party at the fondly-remembered Knock Knock Club in Five Points. Garcia was at the party, and the incident report suggests the young father of one had been relieving himself in the alley when a police officer arrived on the scene. The new recruit zipped up and took off, earning himself a couple charges that were dealt with by entering a pre-trial intervention program.
Britain’s The Guardian newspaper had this to say:
“As if his disregard for club discipline wasn’t bad enough, Anton Ferdinand has been corrupting the youth of America. University of South Carolina freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia, 19, was arrested and charged with drunkenness and failure to stop on police command in the wake of a disturbance at the West Ham defender’s birthday party at the city’s Knock Knock club.”
Southpark’s Mr. M’kay was less wordy: “Peeing in public is bad, m’kay?!?”
Ferdinand, who was supposed to be on the Isle of Wight, not 5 Points Late-nite, was docked about $90,000 pay. Garcia was suspended and keyed a professor’s car the next month. By fall 2008, Anton was on another team while Garcia was starting his first three games at USC. What a difference a pond makes, huh?
One could easily argue that the mismanagement of Gamecock quarterbacks under head coach Steve Spurrier has led to transfers and missing out on better recruits, with Garcia being the only viable option. You could imagine the Head Ball Coach in his office, singing along to Warren Zevon, “I appreciate the best, but I’m settling for less. So, I’m looking for the next-best thing.”
Let’s stop tip-toeing for a minute: The USC quarterback situation is Spurrier’s fault. Not taking advantage of the five suspensions and reinstatements was Garcia’s. He arrived in Columbia with the talent to take Carolina to its first conference title in 40 years. His lack of discipline showed why that hasn’t happened, in his interceptions, fumbles and bad in-game decisions.
Garcia has only himself to blame for his current situation. USC has itself to blame for letting it get this far.
Needless to say, Stephen Garcia’s Firing has set Social Media ON FIRE today! One of my Facebook friends was at the Charleston Yacht Club today when he overheard the bad news and the good news. The bad news: Garcia was dismissed for egging Spurrier’s residence over the weekend. The good news: Only two (2) out of twelve(12) eggs ACTUALLY hit the house!
by J.L. Mann Cromer, Jr , an Attorney licensed to practice in South Carolina, California &The District of Columbia. He received his BA in 1985 from Clemson University and his JD in 1988 from the University of South Carolina School of Law
with Wes Wolfe. He’s written for 11 publications in five states, and is the proprietor of The Five Points Flood.
Not shocking news…I can’t believe he stayed on the team this long!
I agree it’s about time! I also find it quite intriguing that he was given the boot after a new quarterback stepped in and totally filled his shoes…much better than Garcia ever filled them himself. But that’s how spurrier works I suppose. I am looking forward to seeing what becomes of mr. Garcia!
THAT”S want i was thinking! If it turns out that they knew he failed the drug test BEFORE and waited to see if Connor Shaw were up to the task, T-h-e-n 86′ed Garcia …… HOUSTON, we have us a big problem!
that Bubba is the million dollar question of this—the timing
amen Spivey! I think a “test run” was conducted Saturday in the KY game. THEREAFTER and only thereafter did Lil’ Stephen get handed a hamburger & a roadmap!
Thanks so much for reminding us all of Garcia’s many shortcomings!!! I had forgotten about a few of those incidents and really can’t believe he wasn’t dismissed much sooner. Thanks for doing all this research for us too! Have a great evening Bubba!
My opinions are like a see-saw… While I will not bash Steve for partaking in things I have also partaken in during my youth (ok, late 20′s but still), I cannot help but be disappointed that he allowed it to affect his life in such a negative way. He has for all intents and purposes allowed his vices ruin what could have been a promising future, his college career, and well, quite frankly his personal life. I can only hope that he takes this wake up call to get things in order, before he hits rock bottom and really destroys his life.
Plus really, egging the coaches house? Steve, dude, you are in college, not middle school….
Your title says it all. How much was it going to take for USC to stop giving second, third, and fourth chances, and start to get Stephen some real help. His problems are obviousely serious, and I feel for him. I hope he can get his life in order, and I hope USC will try to help.
Garcia finishes his career with 7,597 passing yards, completing 589-of-1021 passes (57.7 percent), with 47 touchdowns and 41 interceptions.
We will surely miss his great ability to throw interceptions, have blatant disregard for team rules and remain sober in spite of many that have insisted he do so.
I suspect his parents never said no to him as a child.
I’m tired of hearing about Garcia, it’s the same story over and over and over. He obviously has problems. Maybe USC should have actually helped him instead of continually excusing him. In the real world you are accountable for your actions. Winning games should not override the opportunity to build the character of a person. I hope Garcia will grow up and make something of himself. He has thrown away a lot of opportunities and I hope he doesn’t throw his whole life away.
I think the operant phrase here is “as ye sow, so shall ye reap.” Another that comes to mind is “there aint no education in the second kick of a mule.” Lesser mortals thjan Mr. Garcia would have been shown the door following the keying incident. He was given every chance to suceed but continued to make reckless or unwise choices. Everybody is talking about “he needs help,”…the only person that can help Steve Garcia is himself. There is a lot you can forgive due to the follies of youth but at some point you have to grow up. I harbor him no ill will and will remember him more for his moments of excitement than for his personal transgressions.
Anyone that agrees to play QB for Spurrier should receive 12 months of counseling for what he puts them through.
Now they get rid of him when they don’t need him anymore. If he was playing well he could do anything and they would never get rid of him. Should have been gone a long time ago.
My sentiments exactly!
It’s five years overdue I say. With a 5th year senior and a sophomore quarterback under arguably one of the best college coaches in the country the only quarterback controversy you should have is which one to start because they’re both so good.
Wow, Game over COCK fans. Go Tigers!
Bubba, can’t agree with you more. Was hoping Garcia would take the Gamecocks to glory this year, but he can’t seem to concentrate on football, letting his personal problems dictate his behavior on and off the field. Let’s put this behind us and show our support to Connor Shaw and his backups.
Okay, well most playas would have been s#!tcanned after 2 violations, should have known he was a problem when he keyed a professor’s car because of the way he had it parked. Not sure how much talent he wasted, but he let down a whole lot of people.
I’ve become a de facto gamecock fan since moving to Columbia 13 years ago. I’ve enjoyed watching them play through good times and bad. One thing that I’ve learned about Gamecock “fans” is that they are are fair weather as they are passionate. When Stephen was leading the team to a winning season last year it was all incense and peppermints. Now that Conner Shaw has stepped up and Garcia quite possibly has failed peeing in a cup, it’s all negativity from Gamecock “fans”. The comments on Facebook are about to make me commit Cockicide (the act of killing a bunch of fair weather Gamecock fans)!
I say it’s about time! I absolutely agree people can deserve and should be given second chances, but Stephen Garcia has far exceeded any such opportunity. I believe this young man was wrongly recruited, was not mature enough for the responsibility and freedom bestowed upon him, and completely took advantage of South Carolina’s offer of chance after chance to grow up. I believe Stephen Garcia has wasted the last five years of his life with nothing to show for it. He will regret his actions, bad decisions, and lack of maturity one day, but it will be far too late for South Carolina. It’s all tragic and I hope his parents will step up to the plate and get their son the help he needs. It is NOT Coach Spurrier’s nor South Carolina’s job to parent a child. That responsibility lies with Mr and Mrs Garcia, Stephen, and NO ONE ELSE. I believe Coach Spurrier went above and beyond to help this young man, and he was sopit upon as a result. So long, Stephen.
Is USC a learning institution or a professional football team? It seems some players can get away with murder as long as they are a good enough player. I believe in giving people a second chance, but after the second misconduct, I believe they should be kicked off the team and get their education. Garcia should have been gone long ago!
Does this mean the faculty parking lot is now safe from random keyings?
I think this is a sad sad situation. A young man with such promise for a bright future, and a ton of talent… NO ONE should gloat over this! We should all pitch in to care for our young people, mentor someone, be a positive example… teach a Sunday School class, become a Pop Warner coach.. do SOMETHING positive and constructive instead of gloating over the plethora of issues that this young man seems unable to contend with. I pray that Clemson University folks will keep Stephen Garcia in their prayers. Pray that this is indeed the bottom of the pit into which he’s been tumbling for some time… pray that he will somehow be able to find purpose and success in his future. A win on the football field IS something to gloat about… an enormous crash in the life of a young person is NOT!
Very well said Jane. There is nothing in Stephen Garcia’s life that Jesus Christ can’t turnaround. We should pray for Stephen’s redemption and not revel in his short comings.
Romans 3:23 “For ALL have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that whosoever (Stephen too) believes in Him (Jesus Christ) will have everlasting life.”
And he should adopt a NEW Mantra : “EVERY HOUR IS HAPPY HOUR…WITH JESUS!”
Wow…I didn’t realize what a loser this kid was. Surmised that Spurrier kept making excuses for him. Too bad, it took him egging his house for Spurrier to actually DO something.
Oh well. He coudl’ve been a great quarterback, but he’s got some bigger demons to fight. I hope he can straighten himself out, or at least find the road he feels like he needs to travel. Not everybody who plays football really wants to play football. I sensed that at some point he may have become burned out. He probably thought the runup to the season, that whole sham thing with Connor Shaw competing with him, was a bunch of BS. Maybe he really wants to be a QB, maybe he really wants to be something else and self-medicated. I wish him well, and hope he can sail a straighter course, wherever he goes.
getting kicked off the team is really going to hurt his Heisman chances….
Randall “Pink” Floyd comes to mind. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106677/)
I’ve never met Steven Garcia. For all I know, he might be a nice, albeit troubled, young man.
What an embarrassment this kid has been to both gamecock athletics and Steve spurrier. Good riddance. I could play that well, seriously. 5 chances and you still managed to muck it up. Idiot.
I think you are going to have a far better team without the distraction of Garcia’s overwhelming antics off the field and underwhelming antics on the field. This may be worse for Clemson down the road.
I’ve been disappointed in Spurrier since Garcia arrived at USC. When he was FILMED keying a professors’ car–ON TAPE, mind you, in his very first semester–he should have been shipped back to Florida. That’s the act of a COWARD and a WEAKLING…we don’t need any of that in South Carolina, thanks very much. I don’t care if Garcia had potential–he was a criminal and Spurrier did nothing–what does that say to the team? To all college students? That if you’re athletically talented–you can commit crimes with impunity? Sorry, but in my home–we teach CONSEQUENCES. When you do the crime, you do the time. Don’t care if the door hits him on his way out…he’s been a waste of time and effort since he got here.
Agree 100 percent.
AMEN!! Well said
My favorite comment of the day so far… ” Clemson just lost their MVP… “
Stephanie, that’s a good one! And true, all you clemson Gamecock haters need to wise up (you too Bubba) and realize that your best chance of beating us this November just left town!!
I have no clue where you got the idea I was a clemsux fan.. .but I’m not. Garnet and Black runs through my veins. I just never wanted the disrespectful thug to throw for us in the first place. I have some hope for Shaw though.
Seriously??!! Garcia should’ve been gone after the 2nd or 3rd incident. We’ve all done stupid stuff as young adults but most of us weren’t on a college football team as the star quarterback. He should’ve been trying to set a positive example for the kids that follow Carolina. When you play football you know the rules and if you can’t follow them and get caught well you deserve what you get. I was beginning to wonder what kind of example he was setting for everyone. If you get caught, no big deal, you can still play football, we don’t care what you do.
It sends a message to high school atheletes, I can get into trouble and still play football, they can’t play without me. That’s the message being sent.
Checked your blog this morning from Mexico and let out a huge cheer…on Clemson’s behalf of course. What a waste of talent. I do admire SC for giving him as many chances as they did. When kids grow up with no guidance whatsoever (which is of course a complete assumption on my part so I apologize if I am wrong) it is unfortunately the school’s role to step in and provide that guidance. And while they also benefit from it, I truly believe that most of these coaches and administrators really care about these kids. You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t. And while I am a die-hard Clemson fan, after reflecting on this story for a day it just saddens me.
Miss you! The Warren Zevon was from our “era” Let’s start planning a BOWL Vacation!
You gotta love a man that helped hand Clemsux their asses two years in a row.
Some sources say he was dismissed for not only testing positive for alcohol but also marijuana. He just doesn’t get it!!! Gar-c-ya-later!!!!
Hopefully the Gamecocks will now finally have a decent leader under center instead of some dumba$$ who spends the game wondering where the afterparty is going to be instead of paying attention to what he is doing. I say GOOD RIDDANCE and GO COCKS!!!!
Such a great role model for our young atheletes . . . . . .
Although a highly touted recruit, during his first semester on campus in the Spring of 2007, Garcia was suspended twice from practice after being arrested in February for public intoxication and, in March, for keying a professor’s car. These charges were dropped after Garcia made restitution to the professor and completed a pre-trial intervention program. In March 2008, Garcia and two teammates were arrested and cited for underage drinking. That same evening, police were called to his dormitory where Garcia admitted to pulling a fire alarm and discharging a fire extinguisher after noticing sparks coming from his stove.
I feel sorry for the guy. SC and OBS should have gotten him some help before this got so far out of hand. I wish him the best as he exits from his extended adolescence into adulthood.
He is/was a piece of work.I think our QB recruiting has been crippled the last few years due to his fancy #1 untouchable status…just saying…
Good riddance to bad news….Let’s stop the focus on the past and move on with our new QB. He will need out support as he steps into a difficult role. All of a sudden…a dream come true for him, or is it a nightmare?
I for one have always been a Garcia fan, but after the second offence he should have had his ass shipped back to Florida. He has over his tenure at Carolina had so many chances to do what was right yet still nothing. I truly believe that he is a talented athlete and a good guy, but he has way too many demons. I just hope and pray that he gets his head right and straightens out his life. There are so many athletes that wish they had the opportunities that he was handed, and for him to not take advantage of any of them is just sad. On the other hand the coaches not only Spurrier are just as much to blame as Garcia is, they are supposed to be in charge of helping shape this kid into a good member of society. He wasn’t let go because of the way he played he was let go because he couldn’t be a man and hold up his end of an agreement he made with The University of South Carolina. Pray for this kid that he can get the help he desperately needs!!!
About time Garcia hit the bricks. He’s been given one too many chances to redeem himself at the cost of the Gamecock team. He’s an athlete with potential but not real talent or passion; he’s literally thrown away so many games in the past that it’s only up from here. Here’s to a re-vamped team with stronger talent. GO COCKS!
IMHO, I think that Garcia got the shaft…everyone has bad days, or even bad weeks or a bad couple of weeks, but the Gamecocks wouldn’t be where they are without Stephen Garcia and what he did for the team. just sayin’
Steve had made yet another mistake that has screwed up his career with USC. Hopefully ,he will learn from his mistakes and move forward for his sake and his son.
Bye Bye, Garcia. This blog is priceless!!!! Thanks for sharing…
Sad…wasted potential all the way around…on another note, though…Guess the Governor will need to revamp her phone message – maybe, “It’s a great day in SC…well, unless you’re Stephen Garcia. How may I help you?” AND…what gives with our collegiate coaches & the press. I think our illustrious general assembly should pass a law that says any late night tv folks who use “SC fodder” owe us royalties. We’d solve the budget crisis for sure!!
Bless his heart. I suppose he will by selling me a gently used Kia sometime in the near future.
I am embarrassed at how long the University tolerated Garcia. I believe in trying to help a child/young man, but ONE must first want to help himself. Garcia is NOT interested in helping himself!! Glad he is gone.
Say it with me Gamecock fans: “Na na na na, hey hey hey, GOODBYE!” Good ridance! USC should have taken out the trash years ago. All the alumni want our money back! Now there are allegations of point shaving, wouldn’t surprise me. As for the egging allegation, I don’t believe it, there is no way he could hit the house!
Hate to see wasted talent and missed opportunity. I can’t believe no one was able to get through to the kid that this was his chance!
Hate to see him go. 2 Reasons with one self serving. 1. Wanted him to be slinging the ball all over the place against Clemson. 2. Hate to see any kid screw up (time and time again) would say maybe he will learn but not so sure after what is it 5 or 6 times. Here is a question though, do you think any blame goes to Spurrier? Just asking, were any of Garcias punishments harsh? Heck I think he got suspended during”Spring Practice” one year. If you ask me he was brilliant on pulling that one off. The rest of the team probably wishes theyd get suspended for Spring practice too. Hope Shaw’s head screwed on straight cause now he has to deal with the HBC.
He dug his own grave. Hope he gets his life straight. Enough said!
Good article, Bubba. Keep those boys in Cola out of the ditch.
Garcia Who…….? Next !
I have been waiting for this day.I believe in giving second chances but PLEASE give the Carolina Fans a break it is outragous the chances he has had..As a CLEMSON FAN I fell assured that Dabo would never allow one of ouir team members to behave as Garcia has……
First of all, I wish SG God’s Speed in getting his life back on track! With that, let’s see Shaw right this ship and get the the Gamecock machine rolling! GO GAMECOCKS!!!
Anyone can make a mistake, but letting it go on this long is beyond me. He was given every opportunity to straighten up and didn’t do it. He only has himself to blame.
What a sad waste of talent. Lots of fingers can be pointed in different directions but, ultimately, Garcia chose to make bad decisions over and over and over and over (how many is that?) and over and over again. Was his drinking this time a big deal for a student athlete? Not really but the sum of all of his previous transgressions along with his latest zero tolerance violation was enough to send him back to Tampa. His off the field problems definitely had an effect on his on the field play. Too bad that all parties involved didn’t learn this sooner. I wish him the best and hope that he learns from it.
Good luck
A shame he didn’t reach the height of his potential on the field.
It’s up to Connor Shaw now.
C’mon, Connor!
I don’t understand why he was kicked off the team or lost his job.
It’s not liked he killed someone. At least not yet!
Garcia reminds me a lot of Squeaky Watson. great potential lost to bad decisions. Neither ever showed more than an occasional spark and USC gave them a dozen chances each.
Not to be overly anal about it Jason but it’s “TEX” Watson
…and it’s “Squeaky” FROMME!!!!
I was referring to Derrick “squeaky” Watson from the early 2000s came from Palmetto High
I know Bro I was just being silly! Thanks for the comment!
I always thought Garcia was eratic, didn’t perform well under pressure and held his team back. With him as starting qb, I thought SC would be a push over for Clemson. Not sure now. Also SC without Garcia may give some of the teams in the Western Division of the SEC a run for their money.
He was a six-slinger who has used up all of his slugs…
From my niece at Clemson: “When Garcia learned that he was kicked off the team, he reportedly threw his helmet at Spurrier. It was intercepted.”
GO BOLLDOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Garcia there!
***CITADEL BULLDOGS! (SORRY!)
Well….one thing we know for sure. Stephen likes his beer! As for him not reaching his potential, I don’t think that is true. Personally, I think he played the best that he could. While he was always a good QB and a very good athlete, he was far from “great.” In college football, especially in the SEC, QBs have to be “great” if their teams have any chance of scoring on opposing team’s defense. While Stephen was highly regarded at the high school level, I just never thought he was able to successfully transition to the college level. Look at how long it took him to stop running out of the pocket whenever the rush was upon him? Look at how many bad ball tosses into interceptions that resulted from those antics. Look how angry Spurrier got when he did just that! While I would bet Stephen made a career in high school playing like that, it just wasn’t going to “cut mustard” in the SEC. Sure, the guy likes to party. However, it’s a lot easier to “release frustration” by getting stinking drunk and doing stupid things when your inhibitions are down. I’m not condoning his actions, mind you. I’m saying his actions reflected the turmoil he must of been under, not being able to be the QB in college that he was in high school. Personally, I don’t blade Spurrier for keeping him. After all, Connor Shaw hasn’t made the “great QB” category either. He had one good start with a weak Kentucky defense. The coming weeks will tell us if he has transitioned into the leader the Gamecocks need. What I was impressed with is Shaw’s steady focus on receivers, even when the rush was on him. He took a couple of hard sacks for his effort but he still got back up and played. Garcia, on the other hand, would have run from the rush, losing sight of what was happening down field. If you want to see what I’m talking about, take a look at how Russell Wilson is playing. Now, THERE is a “great” QB. The man focuses on his targets, while reading everything going downfield, has great position sense all around him to know where the rush is and where it is heading, can evade defensive linemen while keeping focussed on his intended target, turn, spin, run and throw the ball with pin point accuracy to a receiver being covered by two opponents. The day we get a QB like that is the day you’ll see the Gamecocks in the BCS championship. We have “all pistons firing” except for one. What irks me the most is that we could have gotten Wilson to play for us!
Well, Garcia sure received MANY strikes that would have gotten the average person kicked off way before incident #5. I do have to say, if they knew he was positive for marijuana and didn’t kick him off until after seeing how Conner plays, well, that was wrong. Actually should have called his tenure with USC over after the last school session. Spurrier really gave this guy a LOT of room for errors, and one has to wonder why. Garcia will be a blemish on Spurrier’s career, in time no one will remember Garcia per se, but they will talk forever about Spurrier giving him that much leeway. The comment about the eggs above was funny, I know, I should be ashamed, but I laughed!!
Unfortunately, the road is fully paved with football players that were dismissed from both the Tiger and Gamecock programs. Remember Derrick Watson? How about Jamie Cumbie? And of course, who could forget Eric Sampson? Who? Exactly.
My hope is that Garcia at the very least graduates from South Carolina with a degree and is able to have a productive and fruitful life, free from further public scrutiny. This is the reality of NCAA Division I college football. As comedian Chris Rock might say “Here Today…Gone Later Today.”
Hey Bubba, at least he didn’t RAPE anyone’s MOTHER!! Remember Kenny Flowers? And don’t tell me a Pickens County grand jury letting him go was anything to “crow” about…they would never indict a Clemson player!!!
OMG Mike!!! Thanks for ripping off that scab! LOL. I had selectively blocked that from my memory! Including the image of a bumper sticker that was plastering columbia : “DON’T SEND FLOWERS TO YOUR MOTHER!”” i ALMOST WRECKED i Was laughin so hard when I remembered that one! Thanks Pal!
Is Garcia an illigal Mexican?
Six Strikes You Are WAY OUT! I wish Garcia would have held on until the end of the season and finished his senior year. Instead of being in USC’s record books, he will now just be remembered as a troubled partier with major issues. Hope USC makes better news in the coming weeks!
The only thing that surprises me – is that Garcia was “Shocked and Flabbergasted”. This is what happens when you think you cannot be replaced.
If it walks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, etc. IT’S A DUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better learn to quack and not cock-a-doodle-do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Truly a vast waste of talent, not directed and controlled, and a great football team hurt by all this, but certainly not defeated.
Bye Bye Stephen Garcia….you have a lot to learn about life. Good thing you’re still young.
Has Spurrier changed his mind yet about Garcia and
taken him back? That’s what he usually does.
i can’t wait till the point shaving stuff comes out…fun times in cola town!
I say bring him back! After 6 what’s the difference. “WIN AT ALL COST” GO SPURRIER!

Good article but please do more research before posting. The said thing about Garcia is he was an early enrollment and not a greyshirt. He actually graduated on time and had great grades. A greyshirt is when a team signs you and they don’t have enough room for you. So they hold you back and you enroll in december and can count back for last years numbers bc of attrition… Your articles are entertaining for clemson fans for sure but after reading your blog post, you remind me of a woman who watches football with their husband/boyfriend, etc. You know enough to talk about it but say silly things that reveal the truth about your knowledge of football.
Wow Dawg you really got me pegged. Thanks for pointing out my “girlie-man” perspective on football! I won’t worry though: As long as I have brilliant sage-like analysts like you commenting, I cannot fail. Thanks for shedding light and, moreover, on gracing this silly blog with your wisdom. Comment early and often!
