Suspended Driver’s License

Offenses that cause immediate suspension:

  1. First offense DUI : 6 month suspension
  2. Second offense DUI : one year suspension
  3. Third offense DUI : two year suspension
  4. DUAC : 6 month suspension
  5. Driving uninsured : indefinite suspension (cases vary)
  6. Failure to pay a traffic ticket : indefinite suspension (cases vary)
  7. Failure to maintain SR-22 Insurance : indefinite suspension (cases vary)
  • 12-15 points = 3 month suspension
  • 16-17 points = 4 month suspension
  • 18-19 points = 5 months suspension
  • 20 or more points = 6 months suspension

  • Failure to dim lights
  • Improper backing
  • Speeding no more than 10mph above the limit
  • Improper changing lanes
  • Dangerous parking
  • Improper lights
  • Driving in the wrong lane
  • Defective tail lights
  • Too fast for conditions
  • Driving in unsafe conditions

4 points

  • Failure to yield the right of way
  • Speeding more than 10mph above the limit / less than 25 mph above
  • Failure to signal stopping, turning, or suddenly decreasing speed
  • Following too closely
  • Illegal turn
  • Illegal passing
  • Improper brakes
  • Improper or no signal
  • Operating on the wrong side of the road
  • Driving within or through a safety zone
  • Ignoring train signal
  • Ignoring railroad signal/sign
  • Ignoring traffic director
  • Ignoring any traffic devise

  • Reckless driving
  • Passing a stopped school bus
  • Speeding more than 25mph above limit

The number of points assigned to a violation is cut in half after one year from the date of the violation, and each year after that.  You may take a defensive driving class to earn approximately half of your points back.

If your license is suspended you may be eligible for a Provisional License.
